World Most Expensive Watch Today: A one-of-a-kind Patek Philippe watch sold for $31 million (Rs 222 crore) at a charity auction in Geneva, making it the most expensive wristwatch ever auctioned. The Patek was sold as part of the Only Watch auction held by Christie’s on Saturday to benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
For the sale, watchmakers including Patek, Audemars Piguet, and F.P. Journe created and donated one-of-a-kind watches, which are coveted by top watch collectors around the world. The fact that the sale was for charity helped boost the bidding prices, according to the auctioneers, CNBC reported. The buyer of the exclusive watch remains unidentified.
The Patek Philippe watch is made of unique stainless steel and boasts two dials, one in rose gold and the other in black ebony color. It also has five chiming modes, two of which are patented as the world’s first. There is also an acoustic alarm and a date repeater that tells the date on demand. Other features also include resistance to dust and humidity, and it comes with a reversible stainless steel case.
The purchase amount will go to the Monaco Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It funds research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative neuromuscular disorder. The Patek Philippe’s Grandmaster Chime 6300A-010 dethroned a Daytona Rolex which was sold at a price of USD 17.8 million (INR 128 crore)
