UP Elections 2017: The Current CM of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav gets the Samajwadi Party election symbol, the cycle, and the party name. In an interim order ahead of the crucial seven-phase Uttar Pradesh election, The Election Commission of India says “group led by Akhilesh Yadav is the Samajwadi Party and is entitled to use the ‘Bicycle’ symbol.”

Following the prolonged dispute between father and son over ticket distribution and control of the Samajwadi Party, the duo had approached the election commission to stake claim over the party symbol.After days of drama and open spat, it’s now official. Akhilesh Yadav retains the most support within his party and hence he gets the Samajwadi Party symbol, the cycle, and the party name. The decision came just a day before the filing of nominations for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The Election Commission’s legal experts looked into precedents and judgments before issuing the order. Sources said the Election Commission wanted to issue an order that could stand the test of courts.According to 42-page order, the commission explained its decision and held that “group led by Shri Akhilesh Yadav is the Samajwadi Party and is entitled to use its name and its reserved symbol “bicycle” for the purposes of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.”

Akhilesh Yadav met Mulayam Yadav, took his blessings after EC said Group led by him is SP and is entitled to use ‘Bicycle’ symbol: Sources.
