The LB Nagar Special Operations Team nabbed a four-member gang involved in preparing the educational fake certificates of various reputed universities from across the country, on Monday. Police seized 103 fake certificates pertaining to nine universities, Rs 2.70 lakh in cash and other material from them. The arrested persons were identified as — Shaik Peeru Saheb, Ameen Ahmed Baig, P Prashanth, and Uma Maheswar Chary. Three absconding persons were identified as Navdeep Singh Bhatia, Abhishek Gupta, and Ravinder Singh.
The Saheb a native of AP migrated to the Hyderabad eight years ago and was running AIM Education Consultancy in LB Nagar. According to police, Saheb would collect 50 percent of the money as an advance from customers and later brief Baig about the requirements. He would charge anything between Rs 60,000 and Rs 3 lakh depending on the degree and courses.
Baig used to transfer the amount to the bank account of Navdeep, who was part of Aim Smart Educare Services Pvt Ltd in Vadodara, Gujarat. The gang had a network in Delhi and Gurugram and procured certificates from William Carey University, Shillong, Meghalaya. Police said many people paid huge sums for the fake certificates and were using them for getting jobs in the private sector across the country.
