Hyderabad: In a daring daylight robbery, unidentified persons waylaid a container lorry, thrashed the driver and made away with cigarettes worth Rs 4 crore, on Saturday.
The lorry was transporting cigarettes from Musheerabad to Tirupati in Chittoor district. As the lorry reached Pedda Amberpet, about 20 persons arrived in two Sumo SUVs and stopped the lorry.
Few people took the driver to a forest area near Malkapur and thrashed him before leaving him there. Others transferred the cigarettes from the lorry to another vehicle that they brought along with them.
The driver managed to reach Choutuppal police station and lodged a complaint.
