The BJP Senior Leader Manikyala Rao Dies of COVID-19 on Saturday (01-08-2020). He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Vijayawada. The former minister had tested positive last month and was initially admitted to a Covid-19 hospital in Eluru. The 59-year-old BJP Senior Leader Manikyala Rao has later shifted to a private hospital in Vijayawada a week ago due to difficulty in breathing and has been on ventilator support for the past few days.

Paidikondala Manikyala Rao was elected as an MLA from Thadepalligudem of West Godavari district and served as the Endowment Minister in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet between 2014-2018. A dedicated RSS member, he was born on November 1, 1961, in Tadepalligudem and did his schooling in his hometown. He went to college in Pentapadu and later became a professional photographer and then started his own automobile business.

Meanwhile, on July 25, Manikyala Rao tweeted that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was suffering from corona, should recover quickly. He then explained his health condition to the public. “No one should believe the rumors coming about my health condition. Do not worry, do not be discouraged. I’m healthy. Meanwhile, AP BJP president Somu Veerraju expressed shock over Manikyala Rao’s death. Manikyalarao expressed that no one can meet the deficit of the BJP.

“In the 20 years I worked with him at the party, Manikyala Rao was a disciplined and committed worker. His sudden death came as a shock. His death is a loss to the party in the state,” BJP state vice-president Vishnuvardhan Reddy said in a statement.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief on the demise of the former minister and instructed District Collector of West Godavari that the last rites of the late leader be performed with full state honours.

Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu also condoled the death of his former Cabinet colleague. “As minister for Endowments, Manikyala Rao worked for the development of temples and welfare of the archakas,” Chandrababu recalled in a statement.
