Yesteryear actress Kumkum passed away at age 86 on Tuesday, 28 July at her residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Naved Jafri shared the news on Twitter. He tweeted, “We have lost another gem. I have known her since I was a kid and she was family, a superb artist, and a fantastic human being.” innalillahe wa innailaihe raajeoon. Rest in peace kunkum aunty (sic).”

Legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt had spotted her and introduced to Bollywood with the song ‘Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Laaga Teere Nazar’ in Jagdeep’s Aar Paar. She had done a small role in his Pyaasa and the famous track Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan was shot on her. Her notable films are Mother India, Kohinoor, Ujala, Ek Sapera Ek Lootera, Naya Daur, Raja Aur Runk, Geet, Aankhen, Lalkar, etc She was also the leading lady of first Bhojpuri film Ganga Maiya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo.
